perfect combination of impulsive idiots

Lauren and Lars argued frequently. They didn't do it on purpose. It wasn't as though either of them woke up in the morning thinking "I can't wait to get yelled at by that guy again." No, in fact, Lauren would have preferred if they argued less. He couldn't think right when he got mad, it made him feel uncomfortable and tense. He'd never been great at dealing with any of his emotions, but anger was by far the hardest for him to deal with. When he and Lars argued there was always an edge of tension in the air, as though at either moment one of them would crack.

After their first fight, Lauren had been careful to avoid any kind of physical gestures during their confrontations. He didn't want to be the person who threw the first punch in a fight. Sometimes it was so hard to hold himself back though. Given the circumstances it was a bit of a wonder the two of them ever hung out at all. The problem was this: Lars and Lauren were the only two people at the carnival who straddled the line between teenager and adult. Of course Lauren had been thinking of himself as an adult for about two years now. No matter how he thought of it, it didn't change the fact that they when it came to coworkers most people were significantly older or significantly younger than the two of them.

And okay, so maybe that wasn't exactly true. Miko was 16, but she was annoying. Chiaki and Yuugi were usually hanging out with each other, which Lauren hated to see only because of the feeling of jealousy it gave him. Maybe the real truth of it was for all that they did argue and rant Lauren and Lars were more likely to have a decent conversation with each other than they were with Miko or Chiaki or Sora. They were of a similar temperament whether they wanted to admit it or not.

So they did hang out, and they did argue and fight (verbally) from time to time. Lauren didn't know if Lars felt the same tension he did, but today it felt worse than ever. He steps forward, pushing into Lars' personal space. It's not very well lit where they are, for some reason that only makes things more intense.

"You stupid prick!" he shouts, anger clear in his voice. "Why don't you pull your head out of your ass and take a look at the world around!"
